Interview with Nathaniel Senn; attended Copeland School in Laurens County, S.C., from 1914-1922; white elementary school in the area; school had two rooms and two teachers; one room for grades 1-4; the other room for grades 5-8; the school was heated with coal burning, potbellied stoves; water was brought from a nearby well and there were two outhouses; children had two recesses; the school provided play equipment, including a tennis court; three trustees over saw daily operations at the school; after 8th grade, Copeland School students went to Laurens High; a school bus began taking children to the high school in 1922; Copeland School closed in 1940 and students were bused to other city schools.
